REVIEW: MBS Pro 100

Posted on 28 July 2008 by admin

One day I had a dream, more like a vision I guess you could say. In this vision I saw every mountainboard manufacturer in the world lined up at my doorstep. When I asked them why they had come they told me that the mountainboarding community needed a quality source for mountainboard reviews and that they wanted me to assemble a crew together that would test and review their boards for them.

Unfortunately that dream has not yet become a reality. So until that time comes we will need to work together to make MountainBoard.net a quality source for mountainboard reviews. If you have any experience with the product or center being reviewed please add your comments to the review. Spread the word, we need your help!

New for this year the MBS Leon Robbins Pro 100. Replacing the Pro 16, MBS claims that the Pro 100 is “more bomb-proof than ever.” With Rock Star Pro aluminum hubs rolling under your feet this board is ready for anything. (CLICK HERE FOR A CLOSE UP VIEW OF THE BOARD GRAPHICS)

Just bought one of these. My first MBS board upgrading from a Scrub Paradox.
The board is of fantastic construction with the composite casing the inner core. The hangers were a bitch to get on as the top hanger was convex and so are the ends of the board. This is fine as the top hanger has a higher level of flex than the scrub hangers I was used to. This is to make them flex on impact with rocks and such. The hanger and board pull together when tightened but due to the flex in the hanger, the recessed nuts turn. This stops you from tightening them up.
Jason Lee from MBS said the following “You can throw the trucks into the freezer for a bit…it will make the plastic harder and the hole should then hold the nut….as well take out the bolt and nut and screw them together all the way and then unscrew…..this will make the threading easier for when you try to mount it again.”
This did the trick. After having to eat all the ice cream from the freezer as it started to melt (yay) the trucks mounted really quickly.
The Black matrix lights, Bling Rockstar Pro’s all the fit in the standard way.
The Pro 100 looks mean. Like its gonna hurt that mountain.
Lots stiffer than my old board but does still have a surprising amount of flex considering the reports.
It did feel a lot faster. I guess maybe that could be that when I went up to my usual 35 PSI the tyres still felt soft, so I stuck it up to 45.
The board also feels nice and light. Rotations were a lot easier than on my Scrub but I guess the loss of a couple of pounds would help!
I didn’t get on to much with the yolks. You have to screw the dampers down quite far to make contact with the very stiff red dampers. This results in reduced turning. Any less than this and you get a bit of wobble and on turning you can feel when the top hat connects with the damper. I have swapped for yellow Trampa dampa’s Which are longer and a lot softer. Im hoping for a more progressive damping. I haven’t tried these yet but will tomorrow :) .

I ride this board for fast boardercross tracks, downhill, and big air. I love the pro 95 for slopestyle and carving…but the pro 100 is a must for any really fast runs and huge jumps!

Always solid and i have never broken one!!!
The red eggs might be a little much for most people, but then again if your just doing big air, you dont need to turn anyways.
